What you need to know about phishing
Phishing is not something anyone would want. Phishing steals valuable information from your computer and makes it available for scammers and fraudsters to use any way they please. Here are some facts about phishing:
1. Phishing happens almost anywhere online.
Phishing is also sometimes called “spoofing” because the culprits tend to use fake copies of familiar websites and logos to appear legitimate and lure unsuspecting victims. Phishing can happen within emails, online messages, pop-up ads and even via text messages. Visa scams and Fake Amazon Order Phishing Scam 866-216-1072 are some examples.
2. There are warning signs that you may be looking at a phishing scam.
• Watch for the wordings like "We suspect an unauthorized transaction on your account. To ensure that your account is not compromised, please click the link below, and confirm your identity.” or “During our regular verification of accounts, we couldn't verify your information. Please click here to update and verify your information."
• Anything that asks for your personal or financial information may be phishing.
• Area codes may mislead since scammers used voice over internet protocol. Call your financial provider directly instead of calling the number from the suspicious email.
• Your antivirus calls out an alert for malicious website.
• You receive an email regarding a win at a contest you never joined, a job you didn’t apply for or an offer you don’t even know exists.
3. Phishing can happen even if you do not really know it.
Phishing is still prevalent because there are still people who click without really thinking hard. Sometimes you think nothing happens, but something has already been installed in your computer. Therefore, it is important to be aware, be careful, and have a good antivirus software too.
